Our Commitment

CivicMeetings.us exists specifically to help government organizations publish accessible public meeting records. We hold ourselves to the same standard we help our customers meet.

We target conformance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA across all pages of this website and the customer-facing platform. This is the standard required by the DOJ's 2024 Final Rule for state and local governments.

Standards and Approach

We design and develop with accessibility as a baseline requirement, not an afterthought. Our approach includes:

  • Semantic HTML that conveys structure to assistive technologies
  • Sufficient color contrast — a minimum ratio of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text
  • Keyboard navigability throughout — every feature usable without a mouse
  • Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
  • ARIA landmarks and labels to support screen reader navigation
  • Text alternatives for non-decorative images and icons
  • No content that flashes more than three times per second
  • Resizable text up to 200% without loss of content or functionality

How We Evaluate

We use a combination of automated tools and manual review to evaluate accessibility:

  • Automated scanning — axe DevTools and WAVE are used during development and before releases
  • Keyboard testing — all interactive flows are tested without a mouse
  • Screen reader testing — primary testing with NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on macOS
  • Color contrast — all color combinations are verified against WCAG contrast ratios

We conduct a full accessibility review with each significant release and when the underlying platform or design is updated.

Known Limitations

We are not aware of any WCAG 2.1 AA failures on this website at the time of the last review date shown above. If you encounter a barrier, please let us know using the contact information below.

Content uploaded by customers — such as scanned PDFs, video files, or third-party documents — may not always meet accessibility standards. Our platform provides workflows and templates to help customers create accessible content, but we cannot guarantee the accessibility of user-uploaded files.

Some third-party embedded content (such as video players) may have limitations we cannot control. We select third-party tools with accessibility in mind and report issues to vendors when we find them.
